Aji Balaji Joshi, IAS, Secretary Agriculture visited Punjab Horticultural
Postharvest Technology Centre on 22 March, 2024. Dr. B.V.C. Mahajan, Director
PHPTC conducted the visit of Sh. Joshi and explained the various research and
development activities going on in the Centre. Secretary Agriculture took a
round of different laboratories of PHPTC and interacted with the scientists
regarding postharvest management of horticultural produce, testing of food
commodities in NABL accreditated quality control laboratory and calibration of
moisture meters. Dr Mahajan explained different postharvest technologies such as
packaging, storage, processing and ripening of fruits and vegetables. Dr Ritu
Tandon elaborated about the importance and the responsibility of NABL
accreditated quality control laboratory in testing of food commodities. Dr
Mahajan discussed about the technical support being provided by PHPTC to Punjab
Mandi Board and other agencies in calibrating of moisture meters before
procurement of wheat and paddy in different mandis of Punjab. Sh Joshi was
impressed with the laboratory infrastructure and facilities available in the
centre for the benefit of farmers and entrepreneurs. He advised the scientists
to further upgrade and strengthen the Quality Control laboratory of PHPTC with
pesticide residue and other quality parameter testing facilities as per the
requirement of industries and farmers to boost the export of horticultural
produce.
