Visit of California State University Scientists

The two-day Indo-US Workshop on “Horticultural Crops” kicked off at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) on 23-1-2023 as a part of cooperative venture between PAU and California State University (CSU), Fresno, US. The eminent horticulturists from India, US and Australia participated in the workshop.  Dr SS Gosal Vice Chancellor, PAU Ludhiana, Dr Saúl Jiménez-Sandoval, President, CSU, Fresno, Dr Gurreet Brar, CSU, Fresno, Prof Zora Singh, Edith Cowan University, Australia visited Punjab Horticultural Postharvest Technology Centre and interacted with scientists. Dr BVC Mahajan Director PHPTC conducted the visit of dignitaries in different laboratories. He explained about the different postharvest technologies developed for fruits and vegetables such as enhancing the storage life of fruits and vegetables with edible waxes and packaging, processing and value addition of fruits and vegetables etc. Dr Ritu Tandon elucidated about work particularly on application of essential oil in controlling the postharvest diseases of Kinnow fruits. Dr Swati Kapoor, Dr Pooja and Dr Varsha explained about their on-going research programmes to visitors. The delegates also visited the NABL Accreditated Quality Control Laboratory for heavy metal testing in food commodities. They appreciated the efforts of scientists in developing technologies for the benefit of farmers and horticulture industry and providing testing services to different stakeholders.
