Dr. Sukhpal Singh, Chairman Punjab State Farmers' & Farm Workers' Commission and Dr. Gurkanwal Singh Ex. Director, Horticulture alongwith other Committee members visited the PHPTC Ludhiana on 06-03-2023. Dr B.V.C. Mahajan, Director PHPTC apprised the Chairman about various ongoing activities of PHPTC. He explained that PHPTC has developed and recommended a number of postharvest technologies for horticultural produces. He demonstrated the technologies for production of value added products such as jam, nectar, bar and candy from pear and fig fruits. Dr Mahajan also enlightens the Chairman about the importance of testing laboratories required for the testing of the Punjab produces for the domestic sale and export of crops from Punjab. Chairman visited the NABL accreditated Quality control laboratory for fresh and processed foods at PHPTC and appreciates the facilities set up at PHPTC and the contributions of PHPTC scientists. Dr. Ritu Tandon explained the working of ICP-MS for testing of heavy metals and other micronutrients. Dr. Pooja briefed about the drying process technologies of various vegetables and packaging of horticultural produces. Chairman advised them to disseminate these technologies among farmers and entrepreneurs. He also suggested for collaborations with industries for commercialization of the technologies.
