Training on Processing of Pear Fruits

Punjab Horticultural Postharvest Technology Centre PAU Campus Ludhiana organized a training programme on processing of pear fruits. Ten persons from a 'Progressive FPO' of Khadur Sahib, District Tarn Taran attended the training course. Dr BVC Mahajan, Director of the Centre explained about the postharvest handling operations and packaging of pear fruits required for distant marketing. Dr Swati Kapoor demonstrated the technologies for preparation of pear nectar, jam, candy and bar. Dr Ritu Tandon and Dr Pooja discussed about the importance of food quality and fresh-cut technology of fruits and vegetables. The programme was sponsored by Chief Agriculture Officer, Tarn Taran under ATMA scheme. Sh Raghbir Singh President of 'Progressive FPO' told that this group was established in 2016 with the support of NABARD. It has about 200 progressive farmers who are actively involved in preparation of various products like multigrain flour, bakery products, honey, jaggery, turmeric powder etc. The participants took keen interest in this specialized training programme on pear processing and value addition.
