Horticultural Officers Workshop was organized by PAU on 27 and 28th May 2019 where PHPTC actively participated and displayed the technologies developed by the Centre. Dr. BVC Mahajan, Director, PHPTC described the technologies like designing of boxes for pear and kinnow for retail marketing (2 Kg and 4Kg), shrink and cling packaging of fresh fruits and vegetables, ethylene ripened banana and papaya fruits. These technologies has been recommended and successfully adapted by the farmers, Farm produce organizations and mandis over the Punjab region. Ms. Shailender Kaur, IFS, Director of Horticulture, Punjab and Dr. B S Dhillon, Vice Chancellor , PAU, Ludhiana graced the occasion and appreciated the efforts made by the centre for uplifting the status of farmers with respect to both fresh and processed fruits and vegetables. Regarding processed vegetables, Dr. Swati Kapoor, Assistant Food Technologist, PHPTC detailed the technologies of dried vegetables such as bittergourd, onion and fenugreek that holds potential for increasing farmers income. Dr. Pooja, Asstt. Microbiologist also shared her views on rising demand of fresh cut fruits and vegetables alongwith the underlying technology.
