Subject: Short Training Course on "Advances in Postharvest Management and Marketing of Horticultural Crops"

The Center has designed a short capsule training course on "Advances in Postharvest Management and Marketing of Horticultural crops" for Research and Extension specialists, Academic Professionals, entrepreneurs, horticulture officers and students interested in current advances in the postharvest technology of horticultural crops etc.

The duration of training course is 5 days which includes lectures, hands-on-training, demonstrations on broad spectrum of postharvest topics and visit to commercial packhouses/industries. The training fee for attending this training course is Rs 10,000/- for 5 days inclusive of boarding & lodging, refreshment, meal, visit to packhouses/industries, literature kit etc.

This capsule training course will include different aspects like postharvest physiology and technology of horticultural produce, harvesting tools and machinery, packhouse operations, precooling, grading, waxing, packaging, shelf life extension, storage techniques, ripening technologies, FASSI guidelines, HACCP and food safety for horticultural crops, advances in processing of produce, energy conservation during storage, transport systems, destination handling and marketing of horticultural crops, laboratory techniques for analysis of food samples contaminated with pesticides and heavy metals, export procedure and policies for horticultural produce.

The training course will upgrade the skill and knowledge of individuals in the area of postharvest biology, technology and infrastructure development of horticultural crops.

12.15-1.15 pm Pre-cooling of horticultural produce

2.15-3.15 pm Layout of packhouse and packhouse operation
3.15-5.00 pm Practical
  • Judging maturity by different methods, harvesting tools/pre-cooling
  • Objective measurement of colour, texture and dry matter etc.
2nd day
9.00-10.00 amm Postharvest treatments for shelf life extension.
10.00-11.00 am Packaging for domestic and export of horticultural crops
11.00-11.15 am Tea break
11.15-12.15 am HACCP and food safety for horticultural crops
12.15-1.15 pm Storage requirements of horticulture produce

2.15-3.15 pm Hands-on-training on packaging of horticultural produce

  • Visit to Quality Control Laboratory.
  • Demonstration of GC, GCMS, AAS etc. for estimation of Toxic contaminants in foods.
