Punjab Horticultural Postharvest Technology Centre will organize 12 training
programmes each of one day duration for farmers of Punjab from November 2018 to
February 2019 with financial assistance from Directorate of Horticulture,
Government of Punjab. These training programmes will cover wider aspects of
different techniques involved in harvesting, precooling, grading, packaging,
storage, marketing and food safety regulations of perishable produce. Dr BVC
Mahajan, Director of this Centre told that various technologies suggested by
Punjab Agricultural University have led to increase in production of fruits and
vegetables. However due to lack of awareness about postharvest handling
practices and availability of adequate postharvest infrastructure, the farmers
are facing major challenge in marketing their valuable produce. The scientists
of the Centre will impart hands on training to educate the farmers and marketers
for careful handling of valuable horticultural produce so that farmers can earn
better profit and postharvest losses are minimized. Dr Ritu Tandon and Dr Pooja
will conduct the training programmes.
