Punjab Horticultural Postharvest
Technology Centre, PAU, Ludhiana conducted a training programme on "Handling and
Operation of Grain Moisture Meter" for the Supervisors and Auction Records of
Punjab State Marketing Board on 2-9-2017. About 40 participants from different
districts attended this training programme.
The participants were given hands on training on operation and calibration of
grain moisture meter. It is mentioned that the PHPTC has a moisture meter
calibration laboratory which has been repairing, maintaining and calibrating all
the different types of grain moisture meters of Punjab State Mandi Board for the
last more than 8 years. This is the only laboratory in the region which has been
performing the calibration activities in the state of Punjab twice in a year
before the start of procurement of grains in the months of April and October.
Based on the successful calibration work of moisture meters, the Punjab State
Mandi Board has desired that all the Mandi Supervisors and other related staff
involved in the handling and operation of grain moisture meter be enlightened
about the correct sampling techniques and operation in the field. Similar
training programmes will also be conducted on 9-9-2017, 16-9-2017 and
23-9-2017.
Dr. Mahesh Kumar, Professor, Processing and Food Engineering (Incharge, Moisture
Calibration Lab) is the Coordinator of this training programme. Dr. B.V.C.
Mahajan, Director, PHPTC while interacting with the participants asked them to
explain the difficulties faced by them in the field. He advised the participant
to follow the correct procedure for operation of grain moisture meters.
